E-assessment

Wishing you a good week, the topic for today is E-assessment. I am going to talk about its importance in education. E- assessment is valuable in education  for so many reasons. It has a great potential benefits for students and increases students’ engagement to the topic. 

When E assessment is used properly it gives the students the feedback they need and allows them to improve, progress and build their own confidence. The use of such e-assessment makes it more realistic for students to get the feedback needed. So, online assessment are conducted with the purpose os measuring, evaluating and judging the students work. In the last, assessment were usually in the form of paper and were handed out manually without the use of technology. But nowadays, you can create assessments online, using technology. But why to use online assessment? First of all, the use of e-assessment saves time and money. They can be completed in less time, and multiple students can complete the task at the same time. Also they can take the assessment during class or at home using their devices. The teacher gets to see the results in real time and that helps us to adapt to students’ needs, weaknesses and strengths as well. 

E-assessment should be considered as a system that includes in it many components that need to be evaluated. Actually, both traditional and E-assessment should be designed in such a way to provide students with immediate feedback and to lead them to a better understanding of the material. However, online assessment requires a more systematic approach than that of traditional one. E-assessment requires the teachers to improve their methods of instruction and requires a great effort for innovation and development, because it changes students’ communication, interaction and learning but most importantly it changes assessment methods. 

One of the assessments the teacher can use is portfolios. One of the most exciting improvement in the educational system is the use of different form of assessment to evaluate students’ learning, is the use of Portfolios. Teachers use such assessment to provide a ‘better picture’ of the students’ abilities and to show improvement over time. Use of Portfolios is being developed at all phases of the education. As more schools are expanding students’ access to technology, there are a great number of options available for developing electronic Portfolios. Also i have to mention that creating electronic Portfolios can develop teachers and students’ multimedia developing skills. Each stage of the portfolio development stages, contributes to the professional growth of the teachers as well as students lifelong effective learning.

So, we all know that assessment is very important. They measure students’ development. It gives teachers, students and parents feedback about the students’ progress and a valuable way to evaluate their effective learning process. E-assessment can allow students more than one attempt to an answer and gives them guidance to further reading when they encounter difficulty. So if you want your students to engage in the lesson and to increase their digital literacy,  just make proper use of E-assessment and you will receive the desired result.
